James David Auvil Sr

July 20, 1957 – January 5, 2019

 

SMITHFIELD- James David Auvil, Sr., aka “Jim”, 61, passed away in his home unexpectedly on January 5, 2019. 

 

Jim is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sheila; his children James (Jimmy) D. Auvil Jr and wife Cailey , Jacob D. Auvil, Johnathan D. Auvil and wife Catrelle, and Amber Auvil Marias and husband Brandon; his grandkids, Landon Auvil, Cadence Auvil, and Beckham Auvil; his sisters, Sherry Vincent and husband Eddie, Debbie Turner and husband Charles, Vicky McGranaghan and husband Lee, and Jacqueline Burton; and his beloved dog Snooki. He was also survived by a long list of other relatives and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Doug and Marina Auvil; and brother-in-law, Shannon Burton.

 

Jim was devoted to his family whom he loved very much. He also loved sports, especially his favorite football team, the Washington Redskins. He would spend most of his free time with his family. He loved taking his family on vacations, coaching his boys, watching his grandson play baseball, playing with his grandkids and enjoyed Saturday movie and pizza nights with his wife, daughter and grandkids. Jim started a scratch agency with Nationwide Insurance in 1988 and worked extremely hard for his family to be successful, opening multiple locations. Jim would tell anybody who asked “This is the Lord’s agency he just put me here to tell people about him”. Jim was devoted to his Lord and Savior, and sharing the Word of God. He was a member and deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Smithfield, Va. Jim loved his church and was a loyal member there for the last 25 years. He gave everything and more to his wife, his kids, his grandkids, and other family. He was a true example of a great man. He ran the race of life well and finished living for the Lord and will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

 

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 2 PM in Calvary Baptist Church by Pastor Greg Gray and preacher Gary Ross. Burial will be in St. Luke’s Cemetery. There will be a visitation at Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday from 6 – 8 PM. Contributions may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund.
